How To Clear Land For Building a House?

Clearing land for a house is not an easy task, especially if there are trees on the property that are in the way of construction. There is a lot to peg out so a skilled home builder would be needed unless you have previous experience building a house from scratch. The power of building your own home is enormous. The possibilities of making the house yours are endless and you can position whatever you like, wherever you like as long as been cleared, grubbed and graded. What are these things? They are the basic terms used for clearing anything like a roadway, a highway, a skyscraper or even just a driveway. You can clear some brush to build a shed or if you are building a house with a specific landscaping goal, clearing grubbing and grading will likely have to be done across the entire property.

Clearing and grubbing

Clearing brush, detritus and trees are not the only things that must be cleared, while the danger is not great, a blade of grass left under the foundation is not going to destroy your home but an old tree stump improperly removed certainly can cause damage. This is why it is so important to dig out the dirt down to at least 7 feet, 8 if you want a basement and to make sure that anything around the structure will not affect it. Remember that a tree 5 feet from your home will continue to grow. Find out how large it can get and if it’s likely to grow into the house it must be removed. The process of taking down a tree is complex. You must first take off every branch to leave the tree naked and then cut from the top down. Once you have a stump you can remove it in several ways. Digging it out will take a long time and may not remove all of the roots. Getting an excavator, even a small one, can make the job very easy. They are reasonably affordable to rent, but, hiring a company that already has one will save you a lot of time. Clearing a lot on your own will take weeks, a professional company can do it in a day or two.

Grading

Grading is a very important process. You must ensure that it is done properly based on all given guidelines. Grading the property itself should not be too difficult if the property is generally flat. If there is a hill you will have to control its grading and insure the hill can support your home. A very steep hill may need to have support walls installed to prevent ground slippage in the rain. The most important part of grading is ensuring that your home has a slightly raised edge at the foundation. The spoil should graduate by one inch per foot down away from your house to a length of up to 5 to ten feet depending on the severity of rain and snow in your area. Getting a professional company to do this job ensures that all grading will be done correctly.
